My favorite practices
Hi guys, can't believe that we're at week eight already. Looking at some of the practices and exercises that we've done in class, I can say that my two favorite are gratitude practices and visualization. The act of consciously stating what you are grateful for and then expanding on it, is a really powerful tool. And as many of us don't have a lot of free time, something simple like this can fit in everyone's schedule. Hands down though, my favorite is the visualization technique. Today is my day to work with clients at the food pantry and I wanted to discuss how to control your stress levels. One woman, Gladys, has hypertension and asked me how to work it it. We discussed salt restriction, weight control, and then we did Breathing in the Clouds. She really liked it and said she'll try it at home :)

Adrienne those are some good choices for your favorite exercises. I liked the HALT exercises, that is really helpful to me. That is really good that you can help some of your clients using these exercises. It is fortunate that some of these exercises are short that way they can become more of a person's daily life.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne,
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that you can use this technique in your work environment. It is important to be able to find outlets to share what we have learned. The more we can get it out there the more we can raise the consciousness of the world in which we live. This is working on our dynamic interaction with others and it feels good to share. A homeless man came into a ice cream store one day when I was working ( I must have been 18) and I couldnt help but not let him pay for our discounted priced cups and even added extra. The next day he came back and gave me an opera CD and a crystal. He said; "sharing is caring and caring is fun!" I never saw him again....
Hi Danielle, that is a great story. Kindness sometimes comes from some very unexpected sources :)
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, I agree that for many, short meditations work the best. One less excuse for us to try and develop our spirituality..lol
